Strange Antagonism

Just finished watching "Brothers and Sisters" on channel 5. It is a really serious drama, something a little too sobbering for a Monday night at 11pm but well, there's Calista Flockhart and the very human-nesss of the characters in the serial is just absolutely engaging, lest to say compelling.

Something that really caught me was the very strangely antagonistic relationship Kitty has with her mom, Nora. Kitty has had so much pent up bitterness against her mom for her perceived lack of affection during her childhood that there is a good dose of antagonism in every conversation between them.

Regardless, there's this connection that binds them at the end of the day no matter how much fire crossed between them. When Kitty broke up with her boyfriend and her mom was at one of her searing retorts again, Kitty simply said, "Mom, not now..." and her mom went "Aw...it's Jonathan..." and allowed her to sleep with her that night....complete with a nice huge hug.

Not every family is devoid of some form of antagonism, but at the end of the day, it's how you hug and make peace that saves the day I guess :)

And yes I will be glued to channel 5 every Monday night for quite a while to go...
